Would return, drove all the way from Markham, because my GF loves this place. Apparently it’s alllll about the house sauce and it really is all about the house sauce. The beef was really fresh, the meatballs were really good as them were all hand made, the dumplings were also really good The menu doesn’t have much of a selection, Although the meat/menu items are all really fresh and tasty, the soup base is really bland and it really needs the house sauce. Place is really old and has a lot of history
after all the reviews I still give it a try. Actually it’s not bad, or I can say it’s good! Very traditional HK hot pot, foods are fresh. That’s the key about hot pot, fresh foods, light broths and good sauces. They have all the key elements. Besides the environment it’s a oolddd! But just imagine yourself in an indoor 大排檔. The options aren’t too much, but they have the essential and it’s way enough for a hot pot.
I used to visit this place often when I lived in Guelph, and now that I live in Toronto, I miss it so much. I still visit once a year, and the owner always remembers us and welcomes us warmly. They may not give a big smile, but you can feel their sincerity and kindness. It’s a hardworking family business, and they always serve dishes with fresh ingredients. I can’t explain exactly what makes it special, but the taste here is truly unique — so delicious and fulfilling every time.
Came back after years and drove 1.5 hours from Toronto — and it was still worth it. $35 per person for all-you-can-eat hot pot (1 hour 45 min limit), with up to 3 rounds of ordering per table. The ingredients are fresh, especially the chicken and lamb. But the real highlight? The legendary house dipping sauce. The original owner reportedly brought the recipe from Thailand in the 90s — it’s rich, garlicky, and packed with flavor. For anyone with a Sichuan/Guizhou palate, it hits the soul. After cooking everything, save some room for rice noodles — dip them in the sauce for the perfect finish. You can even buy the sauce now ($5 for 2 small jars). Also recommend the coconut slush — still exactly the same as years ago. The original owner has retired, and his son has taken over. The memories, remain. This was more than just a meal — it was a taste of my student years and all the emotions that came with it.
Ive been hitting up this spot for almost 20 years in both locations. I read a bunch of negativity and race and other crap. I will say this. If youre cool, they are cool! If yer a dick, well, hell ill walk ya out. Great family, great owner. Awesome food and all around good place. Its actually comfort food for me and this spot in general. Im kinda glad for the membership, keeps people that cause issues out! Im a Gweilo and approve this message
I have been here 3 times in different years. The taste is really unique and delicious. People come here for the food, not for the service or environment. It is a reasonably priced hotpot. The sauce is unique and the ingredients are fresh. Their mango slush is a must try. Don’t touch the electric oven on the table.
This place reminds me of Karen's Diner, but not explicitly advertised as such. Food is great and delicious and prices are so good I'm surprised how they can stay in business. They start you off with every dish and you can keep ordering more rounds, each and every item was high quality and amazing. Though only the food deserves praise, and if you object to that, then maybe you should not be allowed to be a member.
